Washington, DC-area musicians Andrea Hoag, Loretta Kelley, and Charlie Pilzer received a GRAMMY® nomination for their second CD together, Hambo in the Snow. Released on the Takoma Park, MD label Azalea City Recordings, the CD is one of five nominees for Best Traditional World Music Album. The winner will be announced at the GRAMMY Award ceremonies in Los Angeles on February 11, 2007.

Scandinavian fiddle music is a rich and vibrant folk tradition, inspiring young people today even as it draws on an unbroken history of over 300 years. Hambo in the Snow presents traditional and Andrea’s newly-composed Scandinavian tunes as performed by three of America's leading exponents of Norwegian and Swedish traditional music. Evoking the intimate atmosphere of a winter night in the snowy north with their haunting melodies are Andrea on fiddle and vocals, Loretta on fiddle, hardingfele (Hardanger fiddle, an ornately-decorated Norwegian folk violin with sympathetic strings), and vocals, and Charlie on bass and one- and two-row accordions.

Andrea Hoag, Loretta Kelley, and Charlie Pilzer have performed at concerts and dances across the U.S. and in Europe for over 25 years, including appearances on All Things Considered, Performance Today, and Prairie Home Companion. They can also be heard together on their first joint CD, Hambo in the Barn. Andrea, widely known for her versatile fiddling, is a 1984 graduate of Sweden's Malungs Folkhögskola, and studied intensively with elder fiddlers Päkkos Gustaf and Nils Agenmark. Loretta, America's foremost player of the hardingfele (Hardanger fiddle), has studied with numerous master fiddlers in Norway and placed highly in Norwegian fiddle competitions. Charlie is an award-winning performer and producer of traditional music. He is a long-time member of Spælimenninir, a folk band based in the Faroe Islands.

Both Hambo in the Snow (ACCD-0602) and Hambo in the Barn (ACCD-9601) are available from CDBaby.com and Amazon.com. For more information on Hambo in the Snow, visit www.hoagkelleypilzer.com .
